Meet Our Skating School Directors

Don Mitchell

Director

Don competed with his sister, Lorene, and trained under Peter Burrows and Ron Ludington, both World and Olympic coaches. In Junior Pairs, they won the North Atlantics Regional Championships, Eastern Sectional Championships and the United States National Championships all in the same year. After being the number 1 ranked Junior Pair team in the country, they were selected by the United States Figure Association to represent the United States in the Junior World Championships, which were held in France, they won the silver medal. In Senior Pairs they won North Atlantics, Easterns and placed 4th in the United States Nationals Championships. They then performed for three years as the pair soloist of Ice Capades.

Don then went to law school and practiced as an attorney in New York City. He has taught figure skating for 30 years with his students qualifying to compete in the State Games of America, Eastern Sectional Championships, and the United States Junior National Championships. He has implemented and directed the skating school programs at Niagara University Ice Complex and Hockey Outlet Ice Complex for the last 20 years.

Sue Mitchell

Director

Sue trained under Ellen Burka and Bernard Ford, both World and Olympic coaches. Sue is a triple Canadian Gold Medalist, as she has obtained her gold medal in dance, figures and freestyle. Sue was a member of the Canada Games Team. She performed with Ice Capades for four years, and was the understudy for Dorothy Hamill. Sue was a guest performer on two television shows, Stars on Ice and Dorothy Hamill Spectacular Sue has taught figure skating for 25 years and has had students compete in North Atlantics, Easterns, United States Nationals and Junior Nationals.
